Ubuntu Upgrade

I just upgraded my desktop machine to Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. The web site discussed a command line method, but I just used the upgrade button in the Update Manager. It took a few hours - not the 20 some minutes first indicated.

I was very impressed with upgrade process. Files were downloaded and the upgrades proceeded quickly. Four times the job presented config files that had been modified from the default and asked if I wanted to keep or replace. I kept the NTP config and replaced the rest.

One of the configs seemed to have something to do with networking, but I didn't see any significant changes. The fact that I pressed replace may be why the ethernet interface was not enabled. I could tell something was wrong when both Firefox and Thunderbird couldn't connect to servers. I went to the Networking config tool under the System menu to fix it.
